Civic Buildings Accessibility Survey

What now?

We are using your feedback to establish what action we can take to address the issues you have raised. A plan of works will begin in the New Year. Our aim is to have any improvements completed before next year’s survey in October 2008. Here are some of the things we will be working on and some of the things we have already done:

At the Civic Centre:

• Some of you raised concerns over signage – We have completed a full survey of the current signs. We are now ready to help improve and modernise these to meet diversity and disability needs.

• Lighting was another concern - Gateway is under a full restructure and improvement to enhance the lighting.

• At times our offices were busy and you were kept waiting – We are putting in more gateway desks as part of the new Partnership with Capita.

• You commented on the general condition of the building – We fully understand these concerns, however the funds to spruce up the Civic are limited. We try to ensure what little funds are available are best spent on the areas of priority like your health and safety.

At Southbrook Rise:

• Some of you made comments about the reception area – We have made improvements and more work will follow to brighten it up even more.

• You talked about our open spaces – we have works in place to help improve the green areas.

• There were issues with parking for disabled – We have devised new parking with a level walk through to make things easier.

At Cumberland Place:

• You told us that you are not happy with the waiting area - We recently had the choice of whether to renew our rental contract at Cumberland place. We decided to move the offices there to more suitable accommodation.
