Council and bus companies unite to maintain bus services in the city

Southampton City Council has provided increased funding for bus services in the city to continue to run.

The move comes after a change in government advice which has led to First Hampshire and Dorset confirming that Service 6, in its current form along with other services, will be withdrawn from August 31.

However partnership working between Southampton City Council and the city's bus companies has ensured that all are... (<a href='http://www.southampton.gov.uk/news/NewsItem.asp?ID=3654'>read the full story</a>)

New youth club opens thanks to support from Southampton young people

A new youth club in Southampton has been brought to life after young people were put in charge of a pot of money to give to worthy projects.

The youth facilities at Ebenezer Hall in Drayton Close, Weston, open this week with a community event, after young people decided it deserved funding for a refurbishment.

Bids for the cash came in from youth clubs and charities across the city, and the young people had the difficult task of deciding who deserved their support. The money came from a g...
Southampton's Free Range Children

New research shows that children aged eight to 13 in Southampton play outside more than ever before - up from 51 percent to 74 percent since the launch of the Southampton Play Strategy in 2005.

This is great news, but there is still more work to do - children are not allowed to go very far from their home, and parents do not rate the quality of places they can play very highly.

The findings come from the annual Outdoor Play survey conducted by Southampton City Council and will be addresse... (<a href='http://www.southampton.gov.uk/news/NewsItem.asp?ID=3650'>read the full story</a>)

Southampton City Council is preparing for the impact of industrial action on Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17.

There is currently a national dispute between the Local Government Employers and the trade unions Unison and Unite over the proposed public sector pay awards, which are subject to government policy.
