Gender Hate Crime
What is Gender Hate Crime and Harassment?
Gender Hate Crime is defined as being a crime which has been motivated only by the victim’s gender, or perceived gender. The victim is abused primarily because of their gender and not because of a prior relationship – as is the case in Domestic Violence.
Most reported gender harassment is related to the work place and is dealt with by employment legislation or equalities law. However it is thought that most gender harassment goes unreported and can be anything from wolf whistling, bullying in schools or the workplace, sexist remarks to minor assaults.
