Graves - adverse weather

During frosty spells glass vases can shatter causing dangerous shards, water filled stone vases can freeze and split. Also the cement used to bind corner posts to kerbs can decay and admit water, which then freezes, forcing the memorial apart.

During Icy or snowy weather, the roads and paths to imminent funerals will be treated if at all possible. Please exercise extreme care if you feel you need to visit other areas.

During very wet weather, particularly during the winter, certain areas will inevitably become muddy especially in the vicinity of gravedigging activities. The contractor is required to remove any soil/mud deposited on roads as soon as possible. Grassed areas can also become waterlogged and very soggy. Please wear suitable clothing if you have to visit a cemetery during or immediately following heavy rain. Heavy rain can cause graves to sink in the months following a burial. These will be "topped up" by the contractor, but please report any that may have been missed.
