Scams

Common scams include bogus competitions, lotteries, clairvoyants and business directories. We aim to provide information to enable the public to recognise such scams and avoid becoming a victim.

There are many different types of scam but all try to get you to pay a small amount of money for the chance of getting a lot of money back.

There is one simple question you need to ask: 'Is this too good to be true?'

If you receive junk mail you can drop this in the Scamnesty bin at Southampton Gateway, Civic Centre, Southampton.

You can stop most junk mail and unwanted telephone calls by registering for free with the Mail Preference Service (MPS) and the Telephone Preference Service (TPS). The MPS and TPS share the same website.
