Consumer advice and information
Details of service:
Consumer Direct provide clear, practical advice by either phone or email. They aim to give you the information you need to resolve the problem yourself.
They can also give pre-shopping advice and their website contains a range of essential consumer information.
It is often better to contact Consumer Direct first rather than try to talk to Trading Standards as they have longer opening hours and can provide a quick and practical response.
Consumer Direct will refer you to Trading Standards if they are unable to help you; this is usually because the matter is complex and involves lots of paperwork. They do this by sending us details of your enquiry and we will then contact you back, this will usually be within a few days.
If they think the matter is urgent we will be told to contact you back immediately.
If you have bought goods or services elsewhere in the EU, perhaps whilst on holiday or over the internet, then you can seek advice from the UK European Advice Centre.
If you live in Southampton you can also write to us, email or make an appointment to visit. Appointments must be made through Southampton Gateway.
