What is it?
Amphetamine sulphate: a bitter tasting man-made drug that comes as a white, grey/white, pale pink or yellow powder

How is it taken?
Snorted, swallowed, injected or smoked

Legal status
A Class B drug; maximum penalty for possession is five years in prison, for dealing, 14 years in prison. If prepared for injection, Class A penalties apply.

Effects
• Increased confidence and energy
• Chattiness and excitement
• Increased heart and breathing rate
• Suppression of appetite
• Dilated pupils
• Increased body temperature
• Effects can last several hours

Risks
• Dehydration
• Heart strain
• Hallucinations if a lot is taken in a short space of time
• Unpleasant comedown leading to irritability, anxiety, depression, aggression and paranoia

Amphetamines were first introduced into the UK in the 1930s as a treatment for hay fever, colds and flu.

Taking speed with alcohol or anti depressants can be fatal
