Community safety

We all have the right to live our lives within a safe environment.

Improving community safety is one of our highest priorities.

We believe that keeping communities safe involves more than just preventing crime and disorder; we must also stimulate social and economic change. We realise that if we are to succeed in making our communities safer, we must all work together. These pages tell you how the council is working with partner agencies, the business community and local residents to make Southampton a safer city.

Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch is one of the most successful crime prevention initiatives ever in the UK. It has been built on the simple principle of members of the public working hand-in-hand with the police to combat and reduce crime in the community.

The Drug Action Team

The Drug Action Team (DAT) is a sub group of the Safe City Partnership and is supported by a small team of commissioning and coordinating officers based in Southampton City Council. The DAT partnership and support team are responsible for delivering the ten year National Drug Strategy “Tackling Drugs” here in Southampton.

Not In My Neighbourhood Week

The Safe City Partnership joined the national ‘Not in my Neighbourhood’ week on 13th to 26th October 2008, resulting in a very successful week of events and publicity.
