Safe drinking limits
This information offers advice on how much alcohol is safe to drink.
• For men no more than 3 - 4 units of alcohol per day (maximum of 21 units per week).
• For women no more than 2 - 3 units of alcohol per day (maximum of 14 units per week).
You can't save all of the units up until the weekend! Try not to drink alcohol every day, if you are a moderately heavy drinker give yourself a rest for at least a couple of days a week.
Units of Alcohol:
The list below shows the number of units of alcohol in common drinks:
• 1 pint of ordinary strength lager/cider/bitter: 2 units
• 1 pint of strong lager: 3 units
• 1 175ml (medium) glass of red or white wine: around 2 units
• 1 pub measure of spirits: 1 unit
• 1 alcopop: around 1.5 units
