Responsible drinking in Southampton

From May 3 2007 the city of Southampton will become a Drinking Control Area under a Designated Public Places Order (DPPO). The following information explains what this will mean to residents and visitors.

Where is the Designated Public Places Order currently being used?

The Designated Public Places Order covers the whole of the city of Southampton. Enforcement officers can use these powers at any time and in any part of the city if they think the situation requires them to act.

For set periods of time during the year, however, specific areas of the city will be targeted. These areas have been identified by agencies working together to deal with alcohol related anti-social behaviour.

The powers of the Designated Public Places Order are currently being used in three specific areas of the city:
