Other payment methods
24 hour automated telephone payments
Call on 023 8083 2990 at any time of day or night and make your payment by credit or debit card.
You can use our automated telephone payment service to pay your council tax, business rates, housing rent or green waste collection charges.
To use the service you will need the same information as for online payments - a valid reference number from your bill and your debit/credit card.
When you dial the number above you will hear a recorded message and will be guided through a series of questions in order to give us the information we need to process your payment.
Other payments using credit and debit cards
For any invoices or accounts that are not catered for by the automated telephone service, you can still make a credit or debit card payment by calling our Cash Office. The Cash Office is open between 09:00 am and 16:30 pm Monday to Friday.
The number to call for the Cash Office is 023 8083 2654.
Direct Debit Payments
For regular payments that need to be made monthly or quarterly - such as council tax, business rates or housing rent, the Council recommends that you set up a direct debit arrangement.
A direct debit is an arrangement between you, your bank and the Council by which funds can be transferred from your bank account to the Council bank account. This scheme is used by all major banks and building societies.
Payment by direct debit is simple and easy to set up, contact our Cash Office for a direct debit form.
Payments by cheque, postal order or cash
Cheques and postal orders can be sent by post to the Cash Office at Civic Centre, Southampton, SO14 7LL. Make sure you include the payment slip from your invoice or a brief letter stating the invoice or other reference number.
You can also bring your payment to staff at one of the counters in Civic Centre along with your invoice or rent book.
Cheques and postal orders should be made out to 'Southampton City Council'.
Cheques will be accepted from you or your business, but not from another individual or organisation (known as 'Third Pary' cheque). All cheques must be fully completed and signed. No cheque will be accepted if it is dated in the future (post dated cheque).
Payment at a bank or post office
You can take your payment in the form of a cheque, postal order or cash, along with the payment slip (known as a bank giro credit slip) to a bank or post office. Counter staff will process the transaction for you.
If you use your own bank, the bank will not charge you for this transaction. If you use a bank that is not your own, or the post office, you may be asked to pay a transaction charge for the facility.
