It’s been another successful year for the Summer Reading Challenge in Southampton Libraries.

Each summer, children are challenged to borrow and read six books from their local library, and to win a certificate and medal. Each year there is a different theme to the Challenge. This year was Team Read, linking up with the Olympics and Paralympics in Beijing, and children were awarded bronze, silver and gold award stickers as they made their way through the Challenge.

2,500 children took part in the Challenge in Southampton this year and over 1,500 read six books and completed their gold award. The children will receive their medals in a series of presentations by the Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Brian Parnell, on Saturday 20 September.
