Reading Room

We all do it - read a book that is so totally absorbing that it captures our imagination – and we have to tell somebody about it! You want friends, family and colleagues to share in the sheer delight that reading a good book can bring.
Recommended Reads work in the same way. Selected and compiled by library staff, they are books that staff have read and loved and would like to share with you.

Use Recommended Reads to discover something new to read. Or maybe you want to get back into reading and not sure where to start

  • Books to get you started
Quick Reads are short, exciting books written by bestselling authors and celebrities and well worth a read!

  • Recommend a Read
Please use this form to recommend a book, poem, short story or just share your thoughts about anything to do with reading. Tell us about books you have liked/disliked, where you like to read or write a few words about your favourite book.

  • Reading group for the visually impaired
The group meets at Southampton Society for the Blind on the 2nd Friday of each month 10-12noon. The group is led by a retired English lecturer.
The Society is also interested in setting up a poetry group. Anybody interested in joining either group should contact:
