Historical maps in the local studies library

The map collection contains an extensive collection of maps and street atlases for both the UK and abroad. These include the Ordnance Survey Landranger series - over 200 maps covering the whole of the UK, we also hold the Explorer and Outdoor Leisure series that are ideal for walkers.

We hold large scale Ordnance Survey maps of the Southampton area from 1845 to date. It also holds specialist maps for the area, such as Geological Survey, land use, Goad fire insurance, shopping plans and hydrographical charts.

The Ordnance Survey allows you to take only one A4 extract for private research. Copies for business or for planning applications are NOT permitted.
