Services to the visually impaired
Documents translated into Braille, large print or recorded on audiocassette. Either bring the document for translation into library or email it (details below) or post it to us and we will mail the transcription back to you.
Who can use this service:
This service is available to anyone. To qualify for some of the free services the customer must be blind or have a visual impairement however no assessment is required.
Charges:
Services are free to the blind or visually impaired, there is a charge to organisations who use the Braille transcription service.
Ways To Apply:
Customers need a Southampton City Library card in order to borrow audio-described DVDs or videos and books on cassettee or CD.
Ways To Book:
Customers need to book in advance to use the supernova software.

Please allow at least 5 working days for this service. This service is free to individuals; there is a charge for organisations or Council Departments who use the service.
Bee Aware
If you are a member of the Royal National Institute for the Blind, National Library for the Blind, Calibre or Talking Newspaper Association, we can obtain material from them on your behalf. If you are not a member of these agencies we will register youfor the 'Bee Aware' scheme.
For Children
'ClearVision' books - books with standard text modified to include Braille sheets.
