For sea fishing you could try any of the following places:
Calshot Beach is a shingle spit that gets deep suddenly at the point. It is a good match venue as the beach is consistent along the entire length with no really good spots, it tests the anglers' fishing skills and doesn't rely on getting a lucky spot.
You can catch any of a wide variety of fish at Calshot including Sole, Bass, Mullet and Plaice and during the summer there are lots of Black Bream, Wrasse and School Bass.
Hythe’s reclaimed land is a great place to fish especially when the tide is high. Catches of 6-12 flounders in one session are not uncommon with a lot of the fish weighing over the 2lbs.
Gypsy Lane at Lepe is on the mouth of Beaulieu River and has a deep channel in the mud to allow boats' access at the lowest tides. This deep channel offers some great fishing for a wide variety of fish.
If it's freshwater fishing you enjoy Hampshire can offer lots of choice too.
The River Itchen is a very important recreational game fishery. Almost the entire river is managed to maintain fishing for trout (brown and rainbow), with fishing for sea trout and Atlantic salmon Salmo salar also taking place along the lower reaches. Pike and other coarse fish are regularly removed but still maintain a presence.
The River Test is famous for its high quality game fisheries. Its chalk water and weed cover are ideal for salmon and trout. The main salmon and sea trout fisheries are downstream of Romsey, but salmon have been caught as far upstream as Longparish. The middle and upper sections are good for trout and dry fly fishing.
Woodmill Salmon Pool marks the head of the tidal Itchen and is the first holding pool on the river. For more information follow this link.
Southampton’s top restaurants and eateries will join forces to help celebrate and promote the Sea City Southampton 2007 event – a Seafood Festival that begins on 1st October and runs through until 31st October.
