Protect yourself from fire in the home.

Did you know…?
• You’re twice as likely to die in a fire if you don’t have a smoke alarm that works.
• Over half of home fires are caused by cooking accidents.
• More than five fires a day are started by candles.
• Every three days someone dies from a fire caused by a cigarette.
• Faulty electrics (appliances, wiring and overloaded sockets) cause around 7,000 house fires across the country every year.
For information regarding fire safety in housing, there is a downloadable document called 'National Guidance on Fire Standards' which has been issued by LACORS (Local Authorities Coordinators of Regulatory Services). This covers residential accommodation, such as single household properties and Houses in Multiple Occupation, and applies to rented and privately owned. This document can be found in the Private Housing pages in the section called 'Houses in Multiple Occupation'.
